Introduction
This presentation-style page provides a clear, linear guide for initializing your Trezor device.
Follow the headings in order — Preparation, Connect & Install, Initialize Device, Backup, and Finalize.
The content here is written as a single-page overview that can be used for demonstrations or personal setup.
Preparation & Security First
Before connecting your hardware wallet, ensure you are using a secure, private computer and the official
start page URL displayed above. Have a dedicated, physical notebook or the recovery card that came with the device
to write down your recovery phrase. Avoid storing the recovery phrase digitally. Understand that the recovery is the
ultimate key to your funds — keep it offline, duplicated in secure locations, and access-controlled.
Connect & Install
Connect your Trezor device using the supplied cable. If the device prompts to update firmware, accept only official
firmware updates from the device screen and the official site. Install the recommended management software or browser
integration if needed, following on-screen, trusted instructions. Check the device screen for the manufacturer logo
and match it to the official onboarding sequence.
Step: Initialize
Choose "Create new" to generate a fresh seed on the device or "Recover" if restoring from an existing recovery phrase.
Confirm the device-generated seed on the physical display — never accept seed words shown on a computer screen alone.
Step: PIN Setup
Set a PIN directly on the device. A PIN protects the device if physically stolen. Use a memorized but non-obvious PIN,
and never transmit it to anyone or store it with your recovery phrase.
Write Down the Recovery
The device will display the recovery words — write them down exactly in order. Confirm the words when prompted. Treat the
recovery phrase as the most sensitive secret; do not photograph it, store it in cloud storage, or share it. Consider using
tamper-evident methods or secure engravings on metal plates for long-term durability.
Troubleshooting & Best Practices
If the device behaves unexpectedly, disconnect and reconnect, verify USB ports, and consult official troubleshooting guides.
Do not enter your recovery phrase into any website or software unless explicitly instructed by the device during recovery.
Keep firmware up to date and validate updates against official release notes.
Final Steps & Confirmation
Once initialized and backed up, perform a small test transaction to a new address you control to confirm everything functions.
Store one backup copy in a different trusted location (e.g., safe deposit box). Maintain physical security and periodic checks
that you remember your access procedures.
